Big W – Failed deliveries and no stock
The furore that is rising about the failed online Lay-by system
being experienced by customers is only the tip of the iceberg. News article on Lay-by fiasco
I went to Big W
to buy some presents for my daughter which she had picked out of their latest
catalogue in Queensland and could not find the Nintendo Games that she had
picked out. Upon enquiring regarding the stock I was informed that the stock
had sold out, when I asked when they are getting the games in again, I was
informed that the next deliveries of the goods would not come in prior to
January 2012.
The catalogue date range was from 15th December
to 24th December and I was in the store exactly half way through the
sale period. I find it ludicrous that they
advertise these items but do not carry sufficient stock to satisfy customer. I
would not have been too upset if they had sold out on the last day of the sale
but halfway through, not acceptable. I presume that they hoped that I would buy
something else on finding this out but I just walked out. I have lodged a
complaint with the ACCC and will follow up with the Office of Fair Trading as
they have breached various codes under the law in not carrying sufficient stock
to cover their advertising.
I have noticed that this deception seems to be a growing
trend with the bigger chains and we as consumers should take the time to report
these actions. My advice to Big W and others you have no excuse for this and to
clean up your act as the consumer is tired of your deceptive practices. If you find this is happening complain to the ACCC and the Office of Fair Trading Make your voice heard!
