Open Letter to Graham Quirk
The Bluewater Festival is one of the great activities enjoyed by our community, and it was good to see you there as Lord Mayor, to open the festivities officially. It was a great day enjoyed by everyone who attended.
Now for the reason for this letter, I would like to correct a few misnomers regarding comments that were made and reported in the newspapers.
I gathered that you seem to be of the understanding that the Protect the Shorncliffe Pier group is politically motivated, you having said that is was a “craven scare campaign in the lead up to the elections” referring to the local Incumbent Victoria Newton.
It is you that has made it Politically based, accusing it of being a scare campaign.
So let us set the record straight,
Protect the Shorncliffe Pier Group was set up by Lawrie Breitkreutz, a resident and non politically based Gentleman within this Ward not the Labor Party. It is not a political based Group.
Victoria Newton is a member of this group, and so are Gordana Blazevic and yourself personally.
This Group was set up because of what YOU said or more important what you did not say.
The Community and this Group realise that the state of the Pier is a safety issue, and have acknowledged this.
The community and the Group want the Pier restored, not just “there will be a Shorncliffe Pier”, which you say regularly.
Should you continue along this line, then you are telling the residents of Brisbane and the Community of Sandgate/ Shorncliffe a blatant lie.
I extend an invitation to you to discuss this with me personally, so that I can reinforce this message and explain what the group is about, that is if you are prepared to face the truth.
By the way I do not bite and have been conservative in my voting patterns for most of my life with the exception of getting rid of a corrupt and dysfunctional National Part Government many years ago.
