Carbon Tax - Effect on each and every Household

Listening to the Politicians talk about Carbon tax, no one has yet mentioned what the definitive value of this tax is going to be and its effect on the consumer. In some of the articles we find that a value of this tax is as high as 15%, which is applied to industries that are high users of energy and carbon producing industries.

My question here is what industry does not have some form of carbon producing process. None when you think carefully about this. So in effect everyone is affected by this tax. When the tax is applied from the electrical generation point, power suppliers will definitely pass this on to the consumer, then to the producer who will also pass this on to the reseller, and eventually the consumer. The consumer is doubly hit as they will be paying their share of the tax on electricity and gas they consume in their homes as well as paying for addition cost recoveries by the reseller when any goods are sold.

In addition the cost of fuel, it is muted that fuel will increase in price by 6c per litre prior to the introduction of a carbon tax, and then will increase as the carbon tax is introduced. Then on top of this there will be a GST component that the consumer will have to contribute to and so it just keeps adding costs and who in the end pays, us the consumers.

Look at the table below just fr increase in Fuel and Groceries

Cost effect of Carbon Tax
Manufacturing & Retailing
Increase in the power bills 15%
15.00%
Say a manufacturer's electricity cost is 5% of cost of Manufacture
0.75%
Manufacturers Margin of addition Cost of Manufacturing
0.23%
Increase in manufacturing costs transferred to the retailer
0.98%
Retailer Cost of electricity  are high say 10% they need to recover
0.10%
Plus retailers margin on cost recovery @ 50%
0.05%
GST on Retailers portion  of Electricity expense
0.01%
Total retailers Increased Cost
0.16%

Increase of prices to recover costs right to the consumer
1.14%
Add the GST component of the increase
0.11%
Total Increased retail cost for the consumer
1.25%

Say average grocery Bill for a family is $200.00 per week, Their Grocery Bill over a year will increase by
$129.94

Coupled to their quarterly increase in a electricity Bills over 12 Months @ $300 per quarter
$180.00

Total annual increase just relating to the electricity & grocery content of a household budget
$309.94

Which related to a weekly increase of
$5.96

Additional costs for Petrol say 70 litres per week absolute minimum @ 6c per litlre increase Plus GST
$4.62

Total minimum cost increase for a family per household
$10.58

Which relates to an annual increase to each household of
$550.18

To add to the increased costs as shown above you can rest be assured that Government charges and many other costs will increased accordingly of course with plus GST.

Do we really need a Carbon Tax, the world’s biggest polluters China and India are not part of this world wide phenomenon and the USA has temporarily deferred any carbon tax due to flaws they see in the Carbon Tax debate, so why should we be involved unless the full facts are delivered to us by the people that govern this country, so that we as individuals may examine the facts and make an informed decision regarding this debate.
